Following the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti, Lisa and Jamie Reuben – Trustees of the Reuben Foundation – organised and hosted, in partnership with Virgin Unite, the non-profit foundation of the Virgin Group, an extraordinary evening of entertainment and fundraising in May 2010. Held at the breathtaking Altitude 360 in Millbank Tower, a prized London asset of the Reuben Brothers, the glittering event brought together an elite guest list, offering their support to Free the Children and SOS Children’s Villages, two charities working towards long term, sustainable strategies to rebuild Haiti.
World renowned Simon de Pury lent his expertise as auctioneer, helping to raise funds on behalf of the Haiti Project; auction lots included a once in a lifetime vacation to Sir Richard Branson’s hideaway Necker Island, a private plane ride to the Alicia Keys concert in Barcelona, drinks and scrabble with Joan Collins, an hour on the pitch with football legend Pel, and VIP tickets to see Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez in Paris.
Guests enjoyed a performance from Virgin Unite Ambassador and Grammy Award winner Estelle, and a set from resident Radio One DJ Jo Whiley. On hand to MC the evening was one of Britain’s most loved TV personalities and philanthropists Carol Vorderman MBE, and renown entrepreneur Tim Campbell, winner of the BBC Apprentice and founder of the social enterprise, Bright Ideas Trust.
Lisa Reuben commented:
“We were delighted to work with Virgin Unite to put together this evening for such an important cause. Whilst the immediate recovery effort in Haiti is over, the communities there are desperate for support in rebuilding their lives and we are very grateful to all of our guests and sponsors who so generously supported the event and made sure we can make a tangible difference on the ground in Haiti.”
